What's NewIceWarp Server 9 is a newly designed communication solution built upon the familiar Merak Mail Server technology. New add-ons are introduced for the first time and existing subsystems were enhanced for closer integration, increased performance and usability.


WebMail Pro

New add-on module, can run in parallel with WebMail Basic for ultimate browser compatibility. AJAX based Web 2.0 application AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) driven webmail client-server solution bringing integration of groupware and mail functionality in an easy-to-use interface. Robust and stable functionality allowing large amounts of messages and users.

S/MIME is supported also for desktop email applications, with possibility to automate signing and encryption using server rules. S/MIME email encryption Email encryption and digital signing using S/MIME directly in user's mailbox works similar to PGP, without the requirement for a any software plugin on client side. Fully supported in WebMail Pro, including certificate management.

Rules set within WebMail will work in background with any e-mail client, no matter if users is connected. Server-side account rules Define rules based on message content, email sessions, perform copy to folder and move to folder actions or simply encrypt messages. All definable by end users via WebMail (or WebAdmin) interfaces.

Over 100 dictionaries for various languages can be downloaded from apell.net. ASpell spell checker WebMail Pro supports multiple professional language dictionaries at once, user can switch between preinstalled languages within the GUI. Misspelled words are underlined, no popups or other interruption for maximum comfort.

Support for localization of the interface and ability to view email in multiple languages at once. Fully in Unicode Unicode encoding allows users to view email in every available language with the correct font, without having to choose one character set. WebMail can be easily localized to any language including double-byte characters.

VoIP Telephony

New add-on module, allows to place calls over Internet or LAN. SIP protocol based telephony subsystem Independent on voice codec in use, compatible with a wide range of SIP enabled softphones and HW phones. Easy configuration, NAT Traversal for operation behind firewalls and routers, extensive call routing options.

No need to retype contacts or install proprietary drivers. Allows use of any client device or software connected to the telephony server. Integration to WebMail and Outlook Connector Thanks to close integration of the telephony system within server, users can dial directly from within Outlook or WebMail contacts. Their phone will ring when the call is established and is ringing the other party. Just pickup the phone and start talking.

Text chat and presence information through a subset of SIP protocol, for Skype-like user experience. SIP SIMPLE instant messaging protocol Basic presence and chat functionality. Works with latest release of enterprise-grade VoIP Softphone X-Lite by Counterpath Inc. At the moment doesn't work with MS Messenger because of bad implementation on client side.

SyncML Server

New add-on module, syncs PIM data with a majority of modern cell phones. Zero configuration on server side. No client licensing fees. Cross-plaform, universal solution Over-the-air synchronization of mailbox and PIM information (Calendars, Task, Notes, Contacts, Files, Journals) to devices and applications, independently on device type (PC application, PDA, smartphone), platform (Symbian, Palm, Windows Mobile, consumer phones), and carrier protocol (HTTP, OBEX, WSP..).

Keeps Outlook, WebMail and PDA/phone data in sync, backed up in a server database. Integration with GroupWare Allows to keep updated Outlook data in a pocket device and synchronize them to a powerful database on the server for backup purposes, or manage them via WebMail interface. Widest range of data types and formats- email and folders via IMAP, all GroupWare (Outlook) objects, files.

PDO abstraction layer allows to use any DB engine to store user data. PDO abstraction layer Depending on number of users and devices, administrator can choose data storage from a wide range of supported database engines, from entry-level SQLite up to high-end solutions such as Oracle.

Compatible with most SyncML enabled devices and a choice of others by using Funambol or Synthesis SyncML client application. Near zero configuration Simple setup is possible by fully automated client identification and protocol compatibility adjustment, together with the widest range of data types and thorough compatibility testing with different clients. For devices with no native SyncML support, such as Windows Mobile handhelds, Funambol open-source client application can be used. Another 3rd party product which is guaranteed to work is the commercial Synthesis SyncML client.

CalDAV Server

CalDAV Server for extensibility of GroupWare calendaring and sharing to new applications and platforms. The missing sync for Mozilla Lightning, Google Calendar Directly accessing GroupWare, enables calendaring and sharing with a variety of cross-platform clients without requiring any plugins on client-side.

The best of all three worlds, combined with a great deal of technology innovation. WebDAV, CalDAV, GroupDAV protocols With server solution, no support for sharing is required on client, enables multiple calendar view at once. Supports Shared folders, Public folders, subfolders, occurences, recurrences, exceptions, alarms.

Thanks to close integration of all subsystems, users don't have to deal with incompatibility issues. SyncML, vCard and LDAP technologies Synchronize any piece of information stored in GroupWare DB repository, no matter what interface it was originating from- mobile phone, sent from Outlook, or entered by server administrator.

Total compatibility with GroupWare repository for fast and flawless operation. gzip compression and other enhancements Support for compressed responses, thorough testing for high compatibilty with all major CalDAV clients. GroupWare has been updated so it supports UIDs from the CalDAV protocol.

Ability to view calendars in multiple languages at once. Fully in Unicode As it is with other parts of the system, there's full support for any regional language.

Full Unicode (UTF-8) Support

Unicode support across the system means that everything can be localized into regional languages. Administration Console, WebMail, Outlook Connector All visual parts of the system run in Unicode. GroupWare folder names, account names and IM avatars can now be fully localized, including double-byte languages. Interface.xml file support added for those wishing to adjust layout to accomodate to new languages.

Incoming email is by default stored in the original character and MIME/UTF-8 conversion is done whenever necessary. Account and folder names E-mail, IM messages, GroupWare data are transparently converted to Unicode whenever necessary. Even IMAP Spam Folder name can be localized to any language.

No matter if data came from Outlook, mobile phone or on-line calendar, as soon as they reach GroupWare database, they are in Unicode. GroupWare items and email Support for all international characters sets without the need for conversion in client applications- solution to many incompatibility issues.

Even language specific emails can now be checked for signatures of spam of any language. SpamAssassin rules Support in anti-spam engine allows creating language specific rules to filter spam in non-Western languages, either by users or centrally managed through the AutoUpdate technology.

Filtering is performed upon messages converted to UTF-8 on-the-fly. Filters, Rules All server settings are stored in UTF-8 and messages received in other charsets are internally converted to UTF-8 and then the comparison is made.

API Enhancements

An alternative to remote Administration Console, especially for Linux administrators. Remote API connections API and command line utility is now capable of remote connections over RPC, allows remote management, scripting and performing actions not possible by other means, such as remote Export/Import of user accounts.
